Gelatin prints are made by applying paint or ink to a slab of gelatin, objects are then added to this surface or designs are worked into the paint and then the cloth is pressed on to the gelatin to get a one-of-a-kind print. These designs are then enhanced by stamping with found objects, painting in highlights and over printing. The gelatin slab is ideal for fabric because it is a soft surface which ensures a good transfer to cloth. As the slab ages and is used multiple times, it develops cracks, tears, pitted areas and rough edges, all of which enhance the finished print. These prints can be used in quilts and wallhangings or they can be matted and framed as you would any fine art print.
